From more than 10 centuries ago, La Huerta de Valencia is a system of different irrigated vegetable gardens, the biggest and older of 6 it still exists in Europe. The institution who regulates the irrigation, the Tribunal de las Aguas, has been declared intangible mankind heritage.
At the north of La Huerta de Valencia it grows the tigernut, an small tuber. With it, we produce the most popular valencian drink, the Horchata, a vegan drink, very healthy, refreshing and nutritious. The tigernuts are included in diferents healty diets like paleo diet, it’s a superfood.
In this tour we will know the whole cycle from tigernut to the horchata, from planting, walking around the tigernuts fields, until to arrive at an interesting building where the farmers dry and select the best tigernuts.
In addition, we invite you to a freshly craft horchata with fartons (typical sweet) in one of the most typical horchaterias.
Departure and arrival: Alboraya-Palmaret, metro station.

Duration: 1,5h-2 hours.

From April to December approximately you will see the fields planted with chufa, the rest of the year you will see other crops.
